Junior Section Swimming Gala 2003/4

The Junior Section Swimming Gala was held at Denbigh High School from on Saturday 3rd July as part of the Battalion end of session event.

The results were as follows:

2nd Bedford had one boy who attended so receive 10 Champions' Cup points.

The following races will be held:

• Year 6 (age 10): 25 yards freestyle
• Year 5 (age 9): 25 yards freestyle
• Year 4 (age 8): 12 yards freestyle
• Year 6 (age 10): 25 yards backstroke
• Years 4 & 5 (ages 8-9): 25 yards backstroke
• Any age: Diving
• Any age: Pick up a 2p (goggles must not be worn)
• Any age: 12 yards walking (non-swimmers only, i.e. boys who cannot swim 12 yards)
• Years 4 & 5 (ages 8-9) 3 x 12 yard relay
• Any age: 3 x 25 yard relay

Swimming gala rules

For each race there will be heats and a final.
2 boys from each company can enter each race.
Any boy is only allowed to enter 2 individual events and 1 relay.
The Diving and Pick up a 2p events will happen simultaneously, so a boy cannot enter both.

Depending on the number of entrants in each individual event, there will be either two or three heats for each race.
The first three (or two if 3 heats) boys in each heat will go through to the final.
In the final, the first placed boy will score 6 points, the next, 5, and so on, so every boy who gets to the final will score points.

In the relays, only the first four placed teams will score - the first placed team will score 8 points, the 2nd 6, 3rd 4 and 4th 2.
If more than 6 companies enter a relay then heats will be held.

The order of events will be as above, but with the finals for the individual races held between the walking race and the 3 x 12 yard relay.

Ages are as on 1st September 2003.  Boys may enter events above their age but not below

There will be limited access for spectators. Outdoor footwear MUST NOT be worn on the poolside.

Dave Stocker will call the events and be the final judge in any dispute.

Andrew Burchell, Adam Tinkler and Mel Westwood will be the lifeguards.
