Summer Event 2005 - Junior Swimming Gala

The Junior Section Swimming Gala will be held at Denbigh High School from 2 pm to 4 pm on Saturday 2nd July as part of the Battalion Summer Event.

After the competition, the prizes will be presented during the Battalion Worship, which will finish by 5.30 pm.

RULES:

1. Companies may enter as many boys as they wish.
2. Boys can either enter the Swimming Gala or the Board Games, not both.
3. Each boy taking part will score 20 points for their team.
4. The points awarded under rule 3 will then be divided by the total number of boys in that section, e.g if a Junior Section has a total of 12 boys, 5 boys take part in the swimming gala, and 3 take part in the board games, the team will score (5+3)*20/12 = 13 points (rounded to the nearest whole number).
5. Each boy may enter a maximum of 2 individual events and 1 relay.
6. Companies may enter as many eligible boys as they like into each individual event.
7. Boys may enter events for their age group and above. Ages are as on 31 August 2004.
8. For each event there will be a number of heats, followed by a final.
9. The number of boys who go through to the final from each heat will depend on the number of entries for that event. In some cases times may be used to select the fastest boy from a number of heats.
10. The allocation of boys to heats will be random, so all boys from one company may end up in the same heat.
11. Each boy who reaches the final will score 1 point.
12. The winner of each final will score an additional 3 points, second place 2 points and third place 1 point.
13. Each company can only enter one team into each relay.  The first placed company will score 3 points, second place 2 points and third placed 1 point.
14. The events will be:
    • Year 6 (age 10): 25 yards freestyle
    • Year 5 (age 9): 25 yards freestyle
    • Year 4 (age 8): 12 yards freestyle
    • Year 6 (age 10): 25 yards backstroke
    • Years 4 & 5 (ages 8-9): 25 yards backstroke
    • Any age: Diving
    • Any age: Pick up a 2p from the shallow end of the pool (about 0.9 m deep) - goggles must not be worn
    • Any age: 12 yards walking
    • Years 4 & 5 (ages 8-9) 3 x 12 yard relay
    • Any age: 3 x 25 yard relay
15. Boys must obey the instructions of the lifeguards at all times. Any boy disregarding instructions will be disqualified from the event.
16. There is very limited spectating. Outside shoes MUST NOT be worn on the poolside.

ENTRIES:

Entries for the swimming gala can be made on the Saturday. Each boy will be required to complete a slip for each event that they wish to enter. If the slip is not correctly filled in, or is illegible, then a boy may be inadvertently missed out of a race. The slips must be handed in as soon as you arrive at the swimming pool. Spare slips will be available when you arrive.

However, it would be very helpful to know in advance how many companies will be entering teams for the swimming gala, and the approximate number of boys expected.
