Junior Section Figure Marching

The Junior Section Figure Marching competition will be held at St. John's Methodist Church, Luton, on Saturday 18th October starting at 2.30 pm.  It will be followed by a rehearsal of the Figure Marching routine for "Living the Adventure". Boys who want to participate in the Figure Marching on 8th November MUST attend the rehearsal.

This year's routine can be found by clicking here.

You can also download the routine for "Living the Adventure" here.

Companies wishing to take part should contact Andrew Burchell.

Figure Marching Rules

Teams must have a minimum of four boys. There is no upper limit.

Scoring:

The afternoon will start with inspection. Marks will be awarded for boys wearing correct smart uniform and for correctly standing to attention and at ease during the inspection as instructed.

An inspection mark out of 20 will be awarded to the team.

This year the scoring has been modified, because the emphasis is on correctly executing the figures which will be used in the routine for "Living the Adventure".

Each of the four figures, i.e. Snowball (moves 2 to 6), the Crossover (moves 7 & 8), the Circle Maze (moves 9 to 11) and the Snake (moves 12 to 14). can score a maximum of 10 points.

In addition, in move 1 we will be looking for correct Turning technique. "As each boy reaches the 'turning point', the hands must be brought sharply to the sides and while marking time for two beats he turns the inside foot on the first beat, then the outer foot on the second, stepping off with a full pace on the third, commencing at once to swing the arms." (From the Figure Marching Handbook)

This means that a total of 50 points are available for the Figure Marching. Marks will not be lost if boys lose their way between figures, provided that each figure is executed during the routine.
