Summer Event, 21st June 2014
This year's summer event is on 21st June and will run from 2.00pm to 4.45pm

Please note that boys are expected to wear uniform for the Presentations. A tuck shop will be open during the afternoon.
The Anchors will be doing Sports, organised by Angela Hathaway.
Juniors will all be doing a Triathlon, organised by Andrew Burchell.
Company will be doing a Pentathlon (probably, or it might be Football, in which case Angela is not organising it), organised by Angela Brydon (or not as the case may be).
Seniors will be playing tennis, organised by Steve Fossey.
The competitions will be followed by Battalion Praise and presentation of the
annual battalion trophies which will be led by our chaplain, Rev. Mike Lewis.
Please advise the relevant organisers of the numbers
of people taking part no later than Friday 20th June.
Anchors Sports:
- Relay running race: First boy carries a skittle, runs from start marker, around top marker and back to finish marker passing skittle to the next boy.
- Potato and spoon: First boy holds spoon with ONE hand, no fingers must be touching the potato! Runs from start marker, around top marker and back to finish marker passing potato and spoon to the next boy.
- Hopping relay: First boy hops to the (half distance) end cone, round and back, hopping all the way. When he gets back to the start line the next boy goes
- Juggling ball Hoop: First boy runs from start marker to hoop and picks up juggling ball. He then runs back to throwing marker and standing still throws juggling ball into hoop. Leave juggling ball in hoop and run back to finish marker to the next boy. If juggling ball misses hoop then boy must keep trying until successful.
- Sack Race: First boy jumps in sack from start marker, around top marker and back to finish marker to the next boy.
- Over and Under: Boys stand in straight line and pass skittle over first boy's head, under second boy's legs, over third boy, under 4th boy to 5th boy who runs to the front and starts again, over then under. Keep repeating until first boy is back at the front of the line. (Teams with <5 boys will have to get boys from front to run to the back to make up the numbers each time. Just remember that you will probably get confused when the game is finished - game is finished when a 5th boy runs to the front!).
- Loaded: First boy runs from start marker, around top marker where he picks up one item, back to finish marker and gives it to second boy. Second boy takes this item back to top marker where he picks up a second item and takes that back to the next boy. This boy carries both items to marker and picks up a third item and so on. Fifth boy brings all five items to finish marker, team sits down.
- Hoops: First boy runs from start marker, through hoops, around top marker through hoops and back to finish marker to the next boy.
- Football Dribbling: First boy dribbles football from start marker, around markers to top marker and back to finish marker to the next boy.
Rules:
- 4 boys per team. Teams with more than 4 boys can have a different boy stand
out for each game.
-
Teams with <4 boys will have to get boys to run twice to make up to 4
boys.
-
Companies are encouraged to enter more than one team. Please make sure the
boys know which Company they belong to (would be helpful if they could wear
a Company name sticker / ID)
-
Every team's score counts. The winning Company will be the single team with
the highest score.
-
Total number of teams entering will be divided randomly into two groups by
the organiser before the competition. Each event will be played twice, teams in
Group A playing first, followed by Group B. Where possible Groups will be
arranged so Companies entering more than one team will be represented in
both Group A and Group B.
-
As soon as each your team finishes they must sit down. The teams will be
awarded positions only once sitting.
-
The first four teams to finish and be sitting down after each event will
be given points. 1st = 8 points, 2nd = 6 points, 3rd = 4 points, 4th = 2
points.
-
Four judges will be appointed (volunteers required please) to decide on finishing
positions.
-
After every event boys finishing in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th position will be given
card to give to Head Judge who will record result on master scoreboard.
- Event will be outside. Should there be very heavy rain we will
be in the Hall.
-
Games may be omitted depending on time (and if inside).
JS Triathlon Rules
Companies may enter as many teams of 3 boys as they like. Teams of
less than 3 boys will be at a severe disadvantage, but are still welcome
to take part, or form mixed teams where numbers permit.
Please advise Andrew Burchell of the number of boys that you expect to be entering.
-
The competiton consists of three events; skill, mental & stamina.
-
For each event the teams will be ranked in order (so the 1st placed team
gets 1 point, 2nd placed team gets 2 points and so on).
-
The scores for each event are then added up to find out which team wins the
overall event.
Skills
- Teams will demonstrate their skills at a variety of challenges, e.g. dribbling, shooting, throwing
- Details will be given out on the day
- All boys in a team do each activity & score points in accordance with the score card for the event
Mental
-
Teams will be given a mental challenge involving words
Stamina
-
All boys take part in a run around a marked course (the run will take between
5 & 10 minutes if you run all of the way). At the end of the race boys
will be handed a position card. This must then be taken to the scorer who
will allocate the appropriate points to the teams. All finishing places will
contribute to the scores. Any boys who fail to complete the course will come
in joint last place. If a team has less than 3 boys, the "missing" boys will
score as if they came in joint last place.
Company
Can't even make their mind up as to what the competition is, so the chances of having any rules published before the event are minimal...
However, if it is a Pentathlon then the events are:
- 100m
- 400m
- Long jump
- Discus
- Throwing the welly
2 boys from each company may enter each discipline, but you may have 2 different boys for each discipline! Events will be staggered across the time allowed so if you only have 5 boys they will be able to do all 5 disciplines.
Senior Tennis
Provisional rules are below and may be subject to revision before or during the event at the discretion of the organiser.
- Boys enter as individuals.
- A league will be set up so boys will play a random selection from the competition.
- Matches will consist of up to 6 games. Matches will stop if one player wins 4 games, so possible scores are 4-0, 4-1, 4-2 or 3-3.
- Games will follow normal tennis rules.
- In the league, boys score 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. "Game Difference" will work in the same way as goal differemce, e.g. if a boy wins a match 4-1, he will have a Game Difference of +3.
- The number of rounds in the league will be determined by how quickly the matches last.
- Boys must provide their own raquets.
Boys must be registered by Friday evening so Steve has a chance to set up the league.
Each match will need a referee, so companies taking part will need to provide a referee if at all possible. The number of available referees may well limit the number of matches that can be played simultaneously, and hence the number of rounds in the league.
