Anchor Boys: School years 1, 2 & 3, aged under 8 years on 31 August before the start of the session.

Juniors: School years 4, 5 & 6, aged between 8 and 10 years inclusive on 31 August before the start of the session.

Company: School years 7, 8 & 9, aged between 11 and 13 years inclusive on 31 August before the start of the session. Senior: School years 10, 11, 12 & 13, aged between 14 & 17 years inclusive on 31 August before the start of the session. Where there is no separate senior competition, the rules will state whether a competition is open to Company & Senior boys.

Younger boys may only be entered in an older competition by agreement with the competition organiser, taking due account of the risks involved (for example: a quiz may be OK; a physical sport may not).
